Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to make decent, affordable housing available to every family worldwide. Since it's inception in 1976, the organization has built more than 800,000 homes.
Habitat for Humanity Sawyer County is a local Habitat affiliate serving the people of Sawyer County, Wisconsin. Sawyer County received its affiliation in April 2000. The Affiliate's goal is to build a minimum of one home a year. It is through volunteer labor, monetary and materials donations, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses alongside our homeowner (partner) families.
Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the houses of others. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.
Habitat for Humanity of Sawyer County is a volunteer-driven organization. We have begun construction on the next home. For more information, or to volunteer, contact the Habitat office at 715-634-7787 and say you'd like to volunteer.
MISSION STATEMENT: Habitat for Humanity of Sawyer County will demonstrate the love and teachings of Jesus Christ by working with the people to provide decent, safe and affordable housing in Sawyer County, Wisconsin.
